Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join UBC?

UBC accepts members in five different ways as defined in the UBC Constitution:

  1. Faith.  Any person publicly confessing personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and after being baptized by immersion, may be admitted into the membership and fellowship of this church.
  2. Letter.  A member from another Baptist church, holding the same faith and order may be received into membership upon granting of letter of transfer by such other church.
  3. Statement. A person who has made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and who has been baptized by immersion may be received into the membership of this church.
  4. Restoration.  A person who has been excluded from membership may be restored upon request and by evidence of repentance and reformation.
  5. Affiliate Members.  Any person publicly professing faith in Jesus Christ may come under the watchcare of this church by presenting himself or herself for affiliate membership. Affiliate members are granted all privileges of the church ministries. They are not full members of the church in that they have no voting privileges. The affiliate membership cannot be transferred to another church. The names of those individuals under the watchcare of this church will be dropped from the rolls when they leave the community.

Does UBC allow women to be deacons?

Yes.  Our deacons are elected by the congregation and women members are certainly eligible for nomination.  We believe that Jesus' admonition that we are to love our neighbors (including both men and women) as ourselves and "do unto others as you would have them do to you" means, among other things, that all Christians should have the privilege of being full members of the Kingdom of God and the opportunity to use their skills and talents to the best of their ability.  Women and men often bring different perspectives to leadership positions in our church and we appreciate and value both.  Women also are often quest speakers in our pulpit and teach in our adult classes.

What are ministry teams?  How can I join one?

A ministry team is a small group of members who share a passion for a particular type of ministry and who work together to carry out that ministry.  The focus could be ministering to an age group such as senior adults or preschool children, or it could be a benevolence ministry or transportation ministry, or ministering by working in the library or decorating the sanctuary.  There are numerous ministry teams and many of our members participate in several at the same time.  This gives each member the opportunity to use his/her talents and skills in all areas where a passion exists.  Participation in these teams is purely voluntary and only a few have limited membership.

Each team or small group should have a description of what that group does and a contact person to whom you can send an email to get further information.
