Dr
Jay Hogewood, Pastor
2004 - Present
God
is good and has a good sense of humor. That about sums
up my theology and my understanding of ministry. I grew
up in Birmingham. Got married a week after Kelley and I
graduated Samford (1992). I sensed God leading me to
vocational ministry a couple years later ('94). Went to
Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor and as soon as I
finished there ('97) headed up to Cincinnati for a few
years of PhD study at Hebrew Union College ('97 - 2000).
Didn't finish my degree there, but absolutely loved it.
Richest time in spiritual formation I could've had
anywhere. Finally finished my studies and dissertation
at Brite Divinity, TCU ('04). God be praised for Brite!
And God be praised for UBC. This congregation called me
'pastor' in the late summer of '04 and has held me close
since then.
Speaking of praises, I'll sing a few for Kelley. She's
finishing her MSW from LSU (makes us real Tiger fans,
which isn't hard to be) and has blessed my existence for
over 16 years. Plus, she's the main reason why our kids
- Beck and Mariah - are smart, beautiful and
well-grounded in the love of Christ. Amid all the
bouncing around for study and ministry opportunities in
Texas, Ohio & No. Kentucky, Kelley has been the constant
grace, the presence of Christ to me. Now that we've
landed, we're awfully glad to call Baton Rouge and UBC
home.
