Open Air Ministries
UBC works in conjunction with the YMCA and other local churches to minister to the homeless. Meeting at the corner of 17th Street and Florida Blvd, our church leads the Open Air Ministries services on the 3rd Sunday of each month. Some also help with children's ministry during the main worship service. This ministry is primarily to the spiritual need of the homeless in our community, but we also provide weekly gifts of basic items to help meet some of the physical needs as well.
Women's Ministry Union (WMU)
The Woman's Ministry Union at UBC has a great tradition of helping church members grow in awareness of both the scope of our world-wide mission program and the need for prayer and financial support of our missionaries. We also encourage missional involvement such as meals for students at the LSU BCM, manna bags for the homeless, personal items for residents of LCIW, and so on. The WMU leads the following mission offerings:
CBF Global MissionsSBC International Missions
SBC North American Missions
SBC World Hunger Offering
CBF's Together for Hope
We join with other CBF affiliated churches to support programs to aid people in the two poorest parishes in Louisiana. This includes painting and other service projects, such as a special program called Bags of Hope which supplies backpacks, pencils, notebooks and other school supplies for elementary school children.
Kairos Prison Ministry International
Regular visits to the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women make for a dynamic opportunity to love people who desperately need to know someone cares for them. Planned retreats for spiritual growth and other visits during the year contribute to a challenging, but wonderful, ministry to the community around us.
To Highland With Love
The To Highland With Love Ministry was begun more than a decade ago to minister to the students, faculty and staff of Highland Elementary School located only a few blocks from University Baptist Church.
